Two more new Alstom electric trains hit the rails tomorrow, carrying passengers on the Sofia-Vidin, Vidin-Sofia, Sofia-Burgas and Burgas-Sofia routes. That brings the total number of trains in service to four, named after the rivers Danube, Maritsa, Iskar and Struma.

The Burgas-bound train with the new set leaves Sofia Central Station tomorrow on fast train No. 3625 at 4:45pm. On September 27, the same train comes back on fast train No. 3620, leaving Burgas at 5:25am.

On September 27, a new Alstom train will also run to Vidin for the first time, on fast train No. 7624, leaving Sofia Central Station at 5:15pm. On the morning of September 28, the same train will run as fast train No. 7621 from Vidin to Sofia, leaving at 4:50am.

The Alstom Coradia Stream trains are being delivered under a contract between the transport ministry and the BULEMU consortium, paid for with money from Bulgaria's recovery plan. Under the deal, 35 single-deck electric trains with zero emissions are to be delivered in total, and the contractor will maintain them for the next 15 years.

Each train has 6 carriages and 325 seats in first and second class. The low-floor design makes it easy to get on board, and special ramps let people with reduced mobility use the trains. There's room for bikes and prams, and enough space for luggage too.

The trains have air conditioning, an information system with audio announcements and screens, power sockets and USB ports — including ports for charging electric bikes. They also have Wi-Fi, CCTV, security systems and sensors that count passengers.

Each of the new trains is named after a Bulgarian river, waterfall or spring. The trains carry a QR code — scan it with your phone and it takes you to a series called "Rivers, Waterfalls and Springs in Bulgaria," where passengers can learn more about these natural sites.
