The National Revenue Agency (NRA) informed the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) about established increases in the prices of basic food products in commercial outlets throughout the country. In June 2025, joint teams of the two institutions conducted inspections in a number of stores and found significant increases in the final prices of essential goods within a short period - between June 3 and 17.
The sharp rise in prices in the context of the process of joining the Eurozone is particularly sensitive for consumers and cannot be used as a pretext for unjustified increase in price levels. The law clearly regulates that business practices must be fair, professional and transparent.
The CPC will continue with control actions and will not tolerate unfair practices that affect the rights and interests of consumers. The institution will closely monitor the development of the situation and take the necessary measures to protect the citizens.
