The Bulgarian tennis scene is on the brink of a historic moment as Aleksandar Vasilev and Ivan Ivanov will face each other in an all-Bulgarian final at the last junior Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open. This incredible development not only guarantees Bulgaria's triumph on one of the most prestigious courts in the world but also proves the exceptional talent of the two young athletes. The tension in New York is palpable, and the expectations of Bulgarian fans are huge.
The Road to the Final
The path to the final was not easy, especially for the 5th seed, Aleksandar Vasilev. In the semi-final battle, he overcame a dramatic start to eliminate his Brazilian opponent, Luis Guto Miguel. The match, which lasted an hour and 39 minutes, went through a full spectrum of emotions. In the first set, Vasilev failed to find his rhythm and lost his serve three times, which led to a decisive 2:6 in favor of the Brazilian.
Despite the difficult start, Vasilev showed impressive resilience and mental strength. In the next two sets, he was absolutely uncompromising, demonstrating a superiority that left his opponent without a reply. He gave Miguel only one game, dominating the court entirely. With the score at 5:0 in the third set, Vasilev missed his first two opportunities to close the match, but with his third match point, he put a decisive end to the contest, sealing his place in a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career.
A Historic Clash
This success is even more significant because the two young tennis players touched on a similar historic moment at Wimbledon earlier this year. At that time, 18-year-old Vasilev and 16-year-old Ivanov managed to reach the semi-finals, but fate was not on the side of a Bulgarian final. Ivan Ivanov continued his way to the trophy, triumphing at the legendary "All England Club", while Vasilev was stopped by the American Ronit Karki. Now, however, the story is different. New York is witnessing an incredible clash that will crown one of the two Bulgarians as champion.
