In 2025, a new approach to classic Bulgarian dishes is gaining popularity, offering a lighter and healthier version of favorite dishes such as moussaka and sarmi. The initiative is born from culinary bloggers and food websites, which present recipes that preserve the traditional taste but with reduced fat content.
For moussaka, for example, it is recommended to bake the minced meat instead of frying it, as well as adding more vegetables. For sarmi, white rice is replaced with brown rice or quinoa, and the amount of fat is reduced. These changes aim to offer a classic taste with lower calorie content and higher nutritional value.
The initiative comes in response to the growing interest in healthy eating, but also the constant love for the local culinary tradition. The new recipes enjoy wide support among the digital audience and are actively shared on social networks.
