Bulgarian-Moldovan Dialogue: Gas Corridors, Education, and European Integration

The official visit of Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhеlyazkov to Moldova outlined extensive perspectives for bilateral cooperation in key strategic directions. During the meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, large-scale projects of regional significance were discussed, including the construction of the Vertical Gas Corridor.

Zhеlyazkov emphasized that this infrastructure project will ensure diversification of gas supplies and reduce dependence on Russian energy sources. In parallel, opportunities for improving transport connectivity between the two countries were examined, with the prime minister noting the exceptionally short 50-minute flight duration between Bulgaria and Moldova.

Educational cooperation was also among the highlights of the bilateral meeting. A specific result is the establishment of a branch of the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" in the city of Taraclia. This project was highly evaluated as a mechanism for protecting the ethnocultural rights of the Bulgarian community in Moldova and expanding educational opportunities.

The university branch will offer training in various specialties, including computer sciences, agriculture, business, and linguistics. The Moldovan government committed to financing a state order for student training, which further emphasizes the project's significance.

Another significant focus was Moldova's progress towards European integration. Zhеlyazkov welcomed the achievements since the country received candidate member status in 2022. He highlighted the visible reforms and the Moldovan government's commitment to European values.

The joint declaration of July 4 and the start of the negotiation process with the first cluster were defined as key indicators of progress. Bulgaria declared readiness to share its experience from the accession process, emphasizing the need for public support and understanding of reforms.

The two prime ministers also discussed issues related to regional security. They shared identical concerns regarding the war in Ukraine and hybrid threats affecting citizens of both countries. Zhеlyazkov emphasized the importance of joint actions within existing international formats.
