The volume of retail trade in Bulgaria recorded an annual growth of 7.1%, which places the country among the leaders in the community.
  • Annual growth: Bulgaria (7.1%) is surpassed only by Luxembourg (8.3%) and Sweden (7.2%).
  • Monthly dynamics: Sales in our country increased by 0.5% compared to May, showing a consistent upward trend.
  • European context: Unlike Bulgaria, a slight decline on a monthly basis was observed at the EU and Eurozone level, by 0.1% and 0.3% respectively.

Sectoral differences and trends

The data reveal interesting differences in consumption:

  • In food products and beverages, there was a moderate annual growth in the EU (0.7%).
  • The non-food products sector recorded a more significant increase of 2.3% on an annual basis.
  • Sales of automotive fuel remain volatile, with a decline of 4.1% in the EU, despite their growth on a monthly basis.

While trade is flourishing in Bulgaria, countries such as Romania, Austria, and Germany reported the most significant declines in sales, which highlights the contrast in economic activity between individual regions in Europe.
