Bulgaria Calls on Russia to Stop Disrupting Satellite Signals

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Russia to cease its actions that disrupt satellite signals of European countries. This call was made in a publication by the ministry on the "X" platform.

On the eve of the upcoming meeting of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), scheduled for the period from November 10 to 14, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the actions, which it defined as unacceptable. These actions, according to the ministry, include interference with satellite signals and signals from radio navigation satellite systems.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these actions by Russia affect the critical infrastructure and services of European countries. We remind that such actions can have serious consequences for the functioning of important systems on which the citizens of the European Union countries depend.

Meanwhile, in September, the European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius, announced that the European Union plans to deploy additional satellites in low Earth orbit. The purpose of this measure is to strengthen the union's resilience to GPS interference, as well as to improve the possibilities for their detection. This step shows the growing concern of European institutions regarding such threats.
