Bulgaria strengthens its defense with new anti-drone systems
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has officially confirmed that the first two anti-drone systems, announced by Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov, have already been delivered to the country. The equipment was purchased from the American company AXON.
"The process of integrating them and putting them into operation is underway," the ministry's press center reported.
Upcoming deliveries and operational plans
In addition to the devices already received, two more systems are expected to arrive in the near future. Their acquisition is part of a large-scale modernization plan prompted by the increasing number of incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles entering Bulgarian airspace, such as the one on August 8.
The "Security Assistance for Europe" (SAFE) instrument
- The project is being implemented through the European financial instrument SAFE.
- A total acquisition of about 10 anti-drone systems is planned.
- The current models have an operational range of between 3 and 5 kilometers.
- All projects under the program must be finalized by December 31, 2030.
