A total of 70 tons of fruits and vegetables have been stopped by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) during the current campaign for enhanced import control. The last two shipments, which did not meet the mandatory safety standards, were blocked following an analysis that revealed excessive pesticide content.

Among the stopped goods intended for the EU market are the following products:

  • 19 tons of Turkish table grapes, which will be returned to the sender;
  • 9.5 tons of peppers from the Republic of North Macedonia, which are subject to mandatory destruction.

This operation is part of the Agency's broader strict monitoring strategy, aimed at preventing the supply of unsafe food. So far, as part of the enhanced inspections, experts have already intercepted a total of five shipments of grapes from Turkey and two shipments of peppers from North Macedonia, and inspection work at border crossings continues.
