From 12 to 22 October 2026, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) will inspect plants across Bulgaria that make sunflower oil and other edible vegetable oils, the agency said.
The checks cover only this type of production. Inspectors from the regional food safety directorates will carry them out.
They will check whether the plants follow the law. Inspectors will compare how much oil a plant should produce under its technical design with how much it has actually made up to the day of the check. The amounts are measured in litres per day, and the plants' production capacity will also be checked.
Inspectors will also look at documents on the origin and movement of raw materials and finished products. These show where the raw material comes from and where the product goes.
If inspectors find problems, the BFSA will act under the food laws.
A week ago, the agency announced emergency checks on potatoes at five of the largest retail chains and in their warehouses. These run from 6 to 12 October 2026.
