The program of “Zarzuela – Fire and Passion” is dedicated to the Spanish musical tradition, combining vocal performances, orchestral music and dance. The zarzuela originated in Spain in the 17th century as a genre close to operetta, in which ballet and characteristic Spanish dances occupy an essential place. Its name is related to the first work of this type, the text of which was written by the playwright Calderón de la Barca. The genre reached its peak in the 19th century and continues to be present in contemporary Spanish cultural life, with tenor Placido Domingo among its most famous interpreters, the opera in Burgas explains.
