“Reasons to Be Happy” is a contemporary play about love, separation, and the choices that lead us to our own happiness. The premiere is on January 8th at the City Mark art center.

Starring Asen Blatechki, Lili Sucheva, Stefan Ivanov, and Kamelia Hatib.

Neil LaBute's dramatization comes to the Bulgarian stage as a romantic, realistic, and funny story. The play exposes human weaknesses and poses key questions – how much are we willing to forgive, what is true closeness, can a person be happy if they don't know themselves, what is the price we pay when we choose whether to stay or leave...

At the center of the plot is a couple who have separated but still haven't extinguished their feelings. When the former partners meet again, they confront unspoken truths, petty hurts, and great hopes that continue to hold them together, or push them against each other. Parallel to this, their closest friends find themselves entangled in their own web of desires, jealousy, and insecurity.

“I like these four people...”. The play is about the pursuit of happiness and how long, lonely, and difficult this path can sometimes be, says the author Neil LaBute.

The translation is by Sava Dragunchev, the director is Yavor Borisov. The set design is by Plamena Boeva, the music is by Yan Rumenin. The producers are I Am Studio and the theater association Enso.

The next performances are in Burgas – on January 13th, and Varna – on January 14th.
