On March 19th at 6:00 PM in the Burgas Art Gallery "Petko Zadgorski" (24 Mitropolit Simeon St.) the book "Gencho Mitev - A Teacher of Culture and Education" will be presented. The publication is dedicated to the life and work of the artist Gencho Mitev (1885–1971) – one of the first academically educated artists in Burgas and a figure associated with the beginning of artistic life in the city.

The richly illustrated study by art historian Elisaveta Stancheva traces the life and professional path of the artist – from his early years of deprivation in the Drawing School, through his participation in the First World War and his stay in New York, to his establishment in Burgas as a person with modern views and an active contribution to the cultural image of the city. The book presents a significant part of the works of Gencho Mitev known today and places them in a broad historical and cultural context, based on archival documents, the periodical press, and preserved family memories.

During the event, which is free to enter, visitors will have the opportunity to see in the original the self-portrait of Gencho Mitev from 1912 – part of the gallery's collection and chosen for the cover of the publication. The evening will also be complemented by a musical performance by pianist Veneta Neynska.

The book "Gencho Mitev - A Teacher of Culture and Education" is part of a long-term project aimed at preserving the memory of the beginning of artistic life in Burgas. The study was prepared by Elisaveta Stancheva as author and compiler, with a graphic concept by Lyudmil Veselinov, technical editing by Stefka Ivanova, and proofreading by Lora Sultanova.

The publication is published by "Sofia Art Institute" Ltd. and is realized under a program of Burgas Municipality within the framework of the investment "Burgas - a green haven of the arts" № BG-RRP-11.021-0005-C01 from 29.10.2025, with the financial support of the European Union – "Next Generation EU" and in partnership with BHG "Petko Zagorski", State Agency "Archives" - Burgas and the National Museum of Military History.
