On June 25, 2025, an exhibition will be opened, presenting 29 new historical maps compiled over the past 25 years by Dr. Dragomar Yordanov, a historian and specialist in the field of historical geography and cartography. The exhibition will be opened in the building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and will be accessible to visitors until July 4, 2025.

On June 25, 2025 at 4:30 pm in the building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, an exhibition titled "New Historical Maps of Bulgaria and the Balkan States" will be opened. The exhibition will present 16 panels with a total of 29 new historical maps, compiled during the period 2000 - 2025 by Dr. Dragomir Yordanov, a historian at the Institute for Historical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and a specialist in the field of historical geography and cartography. This is also the 25th anniversary of the beginning of his cartographic activity.

The exhibition will be mainly focused on Bulgaria and the Balkan states, presenting their historical fate in the Modern Age (19th - 20th century), with an emphasis on changes in their borders - a topic that Yordanov has been deeply involved in (historical political geography). The panels can be conditionally divided into three groups: the first presents Bulgaria, the second - the Balkan states, and the third (the smallest) - states and regions outside the Balkans. The arrangement is both thematic (by countries and regions) and chronological.

Most of the maps are historical-political and depict changes in the borders of Bulgaria and the Balkan states, but the exhibition also includes several historical-ethnic maps (from the field of historical ethnic geography), presenting the ethnic character of the Bulgarian lands and the Balkans in the past. Some of the maps are being shown for the first time, using a variety of display methods that enrich the exhibition.

Dragomir Yordanov is a Doctor of History and a Bachelor of Geography. He has worked at the Regional Historical Museum-Veliko Tarnovo, and since 2021 he has been at the Institute for Historical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, in the "Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Informatics" department. Yordanov is a member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria and a collaborator of the "Active Historical Map" foundation. He is mainly engaged in the field of historical geography and cartography, with an interest in Bulgaria, the Balkans and Europe in the Modern Age, and is the author of books, articles and historical maps.

The exhibition can be visited in the period June 25 - July 4, 2025.
