Antoaneta Dobreva – Neti, in the monodrama "Voice" based on a play by Elena Alexieva. A story about a Maria Callas understudy and the struggle for self-awareness. Premiere on September 24th at the Puppet Theatre – Burgas.

Bulgarian Army Theatre and the Art Atelier Cultural Organisation present the monodrama "Glas" (Voice) by Elena Alexieva, starring Antoaneta Dobreva – Neti. The director is Ivail Hristov, the set design and costumes are by Marina Yaneva, and the music is composed by Dobrin Vekilov – Doni.

The performance promises an unforgettable theatrical experience where art and life intertwine in a powerful and emotional story. "Glas" is not just a play; it is an intense mirror, reflecting the struggles and triumphs of every artist who dares to follow their dreams. Viewers will witness the metamorphosis of silence into song, of shadow into light, revealing the voice that resonates within each of us.

The performance is an immersion in the magic of theatre, inspiring us to step out of the shadows of our own doubts and stand in the spotlight.

The Plot

The plot of "Glas" focuses on Victoria Glas, the understudy of opera prima donna Maria Callas, her life told by the talented actress Antoaneta Dobreva – Neti. The play follows the fate of Victoria, born into poverty but gifted with a divine voice. Despite her immense potential, she never reaches her star moment. Only after Callas's death does she get a single chance to perform – in front of a group of American tourists – not because of her remarkable talent, but because of her striking resemblance to the legendary singer. This is a dramatic choice: to sing, or to remain silent forever?

The dramatic story explores the complex interaction between two women, where one great singer is born from the shadow of another. But perhaps the shadow, the reflection, is the original itself? The understudy or the prima donna? Victoria Glas or Maria Callas? For one, life ends with art, for the other it continues relentlessly.

Victoria, having mastered her role to perfection, is on the verge of her fateful decision – will she step onto the stage, tempted by the glitter of the spotlights?

Themes

The performance raises profound questions about self-awareness and self-esteem. The most important moment in Victoria's life is the release from her inner struggles and the realization that every action must meet her personal standards. Through this story, the issue of pursuing others' dreams and the search for one's own identity is explored. The performance is a journey into the psyche of the performer, torn between admiration for the idol and awareness of her own, undervalued, talent. It shows us what it means to desire someone else's life, to be simultaneously close to and far from fame, and ultimately, to confront your fears and embrace your true identity.

"Glas" is a story about the battles we surrender before we fight, about the price of pursuing someone else's glory, and about the profound liberation that comes from self-love. Neti's voice reflects the turbulent emotions of a life spent in the shadow of a legend. "The past stands in your way. Where there has never been a path."

The premiere of "Glas" is on September 24th at 7 PM on the stage of the Puppet Theatre – Burgas. Tickets are sold at the box office of the Art Atelier Cultural Organisation in the "Clock" ticket centre.
