Silk: A World-Class Spectacle in Burgas on November 10th

"Silk" - a world-class spectacle will visit Burgas on November 10th, promising an evening filled with sophistication and artistic mastery. The audience in the "Toncho Rusev" hall of the NHC Cultural Center will have the privilege of immersing themselves in this extraordinary production by Diana Dobreva, created based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco. On November 10th, precisely at 7:00 PM, in the "Toncho Rusev" hall of the NHC Cultural Center, the doors will open for the Burgas audience, who will be introduced to the magical world of "Silk" by the Drama Theatre - Plovdiv. The spectacle promises to be a true feast for the senses, defining itself as lavish, beautiful, and profound as a poem dedicated to love and the eternal human longing.

Director Diana Dobreva recreates the eponymous novel by Alessandro Baricco on stage, transporting viewers to the story of Hervé Joncour, a French merchant who undertakes a journey to distant Japan in search of silkworms. There, amidst the exotic atmosphere and unknown cultures, he encounters love, which forever changes his world. Between Europe and Asia, between reason and the heart, between silence and passion, a poetic and captivating story unfolds, keeping the audience in suspense until the last minute.

The production was created especially for the HERITAGE program of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019, and marks the first Bulgarian participation in the Theatre Olympiad, considered the most significant theater forum in the world. The spectacle "Silk" undoubtedly impresses with the brilliant scenography of Mira Kalanova, which turns the stage into a true visual jewel. The original costumes by Marina Raychinova add an extra layer of beauty and elegance, while the music by Petya Dimanova and the video design by Petko Tanchev complement the overall atmosphere. The dramaturgical adaptation is the work of Alexander Sekulov, and the translation of the novel by Tolya Radeva guarantees the preservation of the linguistic beauty of the original text.
