The premiere of the book "Historiosophy" by Prof. Nikolay Gochev from Sofia University will take place on June 2, 2025 in Burgas. The meeting with the respected scholar will be held on June 11 at 6:00 PM at the Center for Contemporary Art and Library, at the invitation of the Burgas Writers' Community and with the support of the Municipality of Burgas.
Prof. Gochev was born in 1964 in Sofia and teaches ancient Greek literature and classical antiquity at the University of St. Kliment Ohridski. He has a doctorate in the history of philosophy and has translated important ancient texts. The professor is the creator and head of the master's program in "Ancient Culture and Literature" at the university, as well as the founder of the Association for the Development of University Classical Education.
The book "Historiosophy" discusses various topics related to civilization, such as ethnic groups, nations, peoples, ancient sorrow, pagan writers, antiquity and evil, states and the church, slavery in history, the superhuman, hypocritical rebellion, and freedom of speech. The work, which pays special attention to the presence and role of certain artistic images and narratives in the historical consciousness of civilization, will be presented to the public in Burgas.
The texts in "Historiosophy" have been published in the media and social networks over the past nine years. They examine the significance of events and personalities in world politics and church life, as well as the place of Bulgaria in these processes. The professor writes about the connection between church (religious and spiritual) history and secular history.
According to Gochev, a person enters history through their people (ethnic group), because in the community of the people we gather with those who are not our relatives, but are still "our own". This reminds us that all people are "our own".
