Historical breakthrough for the Bulgarian Stock Exchange
Global index provider MSCI has officially announced an upgrade for the Bulgarian capital market. Bulgaria is transitioning from "Standalone Market" status to "Frontier Market" status. The decision is part of the 2026 annual market classification review.
This is a historic moment for the Bulgarian capital market, which sends a clear signal to international investors that our country offers increasingly better conditions for investment, commented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manyu Moravenov.
What does the change mean?
- Increased visibility: Bulgarian public companies will become more recognizable to international portfolio managers.
- New capital: "Frontier Market" status facilitates the attraction of foreign investment and improves liquidity.
- Result of reforms: The achievement is the result of years of effort to improve market infrastructure and the regulatory environment.
The actual inclusion of Bulgaria in the Frontier Markets indices is expected to take place in May 2027. The change is a recognition of the sustainable improvements in the country's accessibility and investment attractiveness.
Why is the MSCI classification important?
The MSCI classification is among the most influential in the world. Moving to a higher category takes Bulgaria out of isolation and places it in the group of economies that have the potential for significant growth. Абе, хора... Видях новината и наистина е нещо. Не казвам, че ще станем Швейцария за една нощ, ама все пак – да си Frontier Market на MSCI си е добре. Покачва ни малко класацията, не е като да сме в дъното на класацията на най-лошите държави... (знаете кой съм).
