Every council-run kindergarten in Burgas will join a Healthy Eating Week from October 12 to 16. Burgas council is running the event, and this year's motto is "Healthy food – a superpower for all children!"

Each day has its own theme. October 12 is "Superfoods for superheroes!", October 13 is about healthy drinks under the slogan "Superpower in a cup – healthy drinks!", October 14 is "Autumn energy – tasty gifts from nature", and October 15 is Mission "Health", looking at healthy habits for every day.

The week ends on October 16 with a superhero parade along Aleko Bogoridi Boulevard, called "Good food makes us superheroes too!" Children will meet outside the council building at 4:30pm, and the parade sets off at 5pm for the terrace of the Sea Casino Culture Centre. Up to 30 children from each kindergarten will take part.

The children will dress up as their favourite healthy food – an apple, a carrot, broccoli, a strawberry or another "superfood". Parents are invited to join in too, in matching costumes.

Kindergartens will run games and activities about healthy food and staying active all week. The parade will end with a group flash mob, and every kindergarten that takes part will get a certificate.

The council says the aim is to teach children about healthy food in a fun way and get them into good habits early. The message, the council says, is that healthy food can be tasty and fun, and that eating well can be an adventure. The organisers add that living healthily comes down to small choices made every day.

Vinyl banners carrying the campaign's messages will go up at a chosen spot in the Sea Garden and stay there to remind people to eat well and stay active.
