Burgas to Host European Shooting Championship for Youth, Juniors and Girls

Burgas will host the European Championship in Sports Shooting for Youth, Juniors and Girls, which will take place from February 3 to 15 in the “Arena Burgas” hall. The event is organized under the auspices of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and the European Shooting Confederation and will attract around 800 participants from nearly 40 countries.

The official opening of the championship will take place on February 4 at 6:00 PM in “Arena Burgas”, where delegations from all over Europe and representatives of sports institutions will be welcomed.

This hosting is important not only for Burgas, but also for the whole country, as for the first time in three decades Bulgaria is hosting such a large-scale continental championship in sports shooting. Bulgaria has hosted the European Championship in Sports Shooting four times – in 1975, 1985, 1992, with the last one taking place in Sofia in 1996.

“For 30 years Bulgaria has not hosted a sports shooting competition of this rank. This championship brings exceptional prestige to our country. Of course, it is also a responsibility, which I believe we will handle in the best possible way. Special thanks to the Municipality of Burgas for the support. The European Championship is an excellent opportunity to promote sports shooting, an opportunity for our young hopes to showcase themselves. It will also bring a lot of serious organizational experience to our federation. Over the past two years of preparation, our referees have participated in special refereeing courses, in courses for working with electronic targets. So we already have even more prepared people who acquire skills in connection with the conduct of competitions of this rank. 20 Bulgarian referees will be involved in the organization of the European Championship plus 15 foreign ones, who will be sent by the European Confederation. The competition is very large-scale. In fact, we are organizing two European championships – for juniors and girls aged up to 16 and up to 18 years and for youth up to 21 years. The number of participants and countries is also impressive. I am convinced that everyone will have unforgettable memories from Burgas and Bulgaria, and we will have the pleasure of seeing the good future of sports shooting”, said Vesela Lecheva, Chairman of the Bulgarian Shooting Union.

The organizers expect the European Championship to attract significant interest from the sports community, the media and international representatives, which will once again make Burgas the center of European sport.
