The new Bulgarian film "Pilots" reveals the story of World War II aviators
The first shooting period of the new Bulgarian feature film "Pilots", directed by Anri Kulev, has successfully concluded in Burgas. The team transformed the seaside city and the region into an authentic filming set, including locations such as the Burgas Saltworks, the Ropotamo area, and the ancient sanctuary of Beglik Tash.
"Burgas is once again a filming location for great Bulgarian cinema," commented the city's mayor, Dimitar Nikolov, after a meeting with the creative team.
What is the film about?
The production, which is a co-production with BNT, is inspired by real historical events. The plot focuses on:
- The heroism of Bulgarian fighter pilots during World War II.
- The tragic fate of the "undeservedly forgotten young boys" who died defending Sofia in 1943-1944.
- Historical figures such as Captain Dimitar Spisarevski and Stoyan Stoyanov.
The lead roles are played by Ivan Barnev, American actor John Eric Bentley, Leart Dokle, Bashar Rahal, Malin Krastev, and others. Work on the project continues in Sofia, with the third shooting period scheduled for October.
