Heavy goods vehicle traffic restrictions due to high temperatures
Due to the forecasted heat and temperatures above 35 degrees, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) is introducing temporary traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles over 20 tons.
The measure is necessary to protect the road surface from deformation and ensure traffic safety.
When and where will traffic be stopped?
The restriction is in effect for the afternoon hours between 13:00 and 21:00. The ban covers the following regions:
- Sofia, Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte;
- Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo;
- Sliven, Stara Zagora, Vidin, Montana, and Vratsa.
Exceptions to the ban
The restriction does not apply to vehicles transporting:
- Perishable food products;
- Temperature-controlled cargo;
- Live animals;
- Dangerous goods (ADR).
Advice for drivers
The RIA appeals to drivers to drive with increased caution, maintain a safe distance, and not use emergency lanes for overtaking. Also, be careful when passing through the Hemus Motorway in the Lovech region, where cleaning activities are being carried out on June 30 and July 1.
