Restrictions for heavy traffic
With the aim of increasing safety during peak hours, the Road Infrastructure Agency is introducing temporary traffic organization for heavy goods vehicles over 12 tons. The restriction applies to:
- Trakia motorway
- Struma motorway
- Road I-1 through the Kresna Gorge (from Simitli junction to Kulata border crossing)
The ban is in effect on Friday from 16:00 to 23:00 and on Sunday from 15:30 to 22:00.
Alternative routes
Drivers of heavy trucks can use the following alternatives:
- For those traveling to Burgas: The Sub-Balkan road I-6.
- For those traveling to Kulata border crossing: Detour route via road II-19 (Simitli – Gotse Delchev) and road III-198.
Exceptions to the restrictions
The restriction does not apply to trucks transporting:
- Live animals;
- Perishable food products;
- Dangerous goods (ADR);
- Temperature-controlled goods;
- Specialized road maintenance equipment and public passenger transport.
Reversible traffic at Simitli
In the Simitli area, reversible traffic is being introduced for easier transit towards Bansko. On Friday, two lanes will be provided in the direction of Kulata, and on Sunday – two lanes towards Sofia.
