Weather Change: Cold Front Brings Precipitation and Cooling
In the coming days, Bulgaria will undergo a serious meteorological change, as the country transitions from clear and sunny weather to the influence of a cold atmospheric front, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH). This sharp transition will bring short-lived but significant precipitation that will cover the entire country.
Over the past night, the sky over the country began to clear of clouds, leaving it mostly clear. The wind was light to moderate, coming from the east-northeast. The atmospheric pressure, which was slowly decreasing, remained close to the monthly average.
Today, the day is expected to be mostly sunny, although in the morning there will still be low cloud cover over the eastern regions. In the afternoon, however, a cloud mass will begin to build up from the west, which by evening will bring rain to Western Bulgaria. The wind will be moderate, with a direction of east-southeast. The expected maximum temperatures will vary between 26° and 31°, while for the capital Sofia they will reach around 27°.
On the Black Sea coast, the picture is a little different. Before noon, there will be significant low cloudiness, which will gradually dissipate to give way to the sun. The sea state will be relatively strong, reaching 3-4 on the Douglas scale, and the water temperatures will be pleasant – between 24° and 25°. The maximum air temperatures along the coast will be between 23° and 26°.
In the mountains, it will also be mostly sunny at the beginning of the day, but similar to the lowland parts, cloudiness will increase from the west. By evening, precipitation is expected in the mountain massifs of Western Bulgaria. The wind will be light to moderate, coming from the west-southwest. At an altitude of 1200 meters, the maximum temperature will be around 23°, and at 2000 meters – around 14°.
The culmination of the weather change will occur on Monday night, when a cold atmospheric front will pass through the country. This front will bring short-lived, but in many places intense and significant amounts of precipitation, which will move from west to east. The wind will sharply change its direction, orienting from the northwest and will strengthen. Temperatures will drop significantly, with daytime values in most of the country being between 23° and 28°, and in the northwestern regions they will fall to around 20°. The good news is that by evening the precipitation will stop everywhere, and the cloudiness will begin to break up.
On Tuesday, the weather is expected to stabilize. The day will be mostly sunny, although in the morning there will be low cloudiness and reduced visibility in the eastern regions and in some valleys. The wind will weaken and will orient from the north-northeast. Daytime temperatures will start to rise again, while the minimums will be between 9° and 14°. With this, the atmospheric pressure is expected to start to normalize again.
