Thursday, August 13, will bring a change in the atmospheric conditions. Although it will remain sunny in many regions, cooler air will move in from the north-northeast. In the afternoon, cumulonimbus clouds will develop over the mountains in Western Bulgaria, with short-term rain, thunderstorms, and hail possible in some places.
Weather in Burgas and the region
In Burgas, mostly sunny weather is expected, with a minimum temperature around 22°C and a maximum around 28–29°C. The probability of precipitation is low – approximately up to 5%, and significant amounts are not expected.
The sea water temperature will be around 26–27°C. The wind will be from the northeast, strong, with an average speed of about 8 m/s and gusts up to 15 m/s. Under these conditions, the sea state may increase to about 3 degrees.
The preliminary assessment for safe swimming in the Burgas region is a yellow flag. The sea water will be warm, but the strong wind and variable waves require increased caution and strict adherence to the lifeguards' signals.
Sofia and the region
In Sofia, there will be more sun in the first half of the day. Minimum temperatures will be around 17°C, and maximums – around 32°C. In the afternoon, around Vitosha and in the western parts of the region, development of cumulus clouds is expected, with a moderate probability of short-term rain and thunderstorms.
The wind will shift from the north-northeast and will be light to moderate, with temporary increases. For the capital, sea water temperature and swimming flags do not apply; when hiking in the mountains, it is necessary for tourists to descend from exposed ridges when a storm approaches.
Eastern and Western Bulgaria
In Eastern Bulgaria, sunny weather will prevail. Maximum temperatures will be between 30°C and 34°C, and precipitation is unlikely. The wind from the north-northeast will be moderate, and in some places temporarily strong, especially in open areas and near the sea.
In Western Bulgaria, temperatures will remain high – mostly between 30°C and 34°C, but will begin to gradually decrease. The probability of short afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms is higher in the mountainous and southwestern regions; hail is locally possible.
In the mountains
In the mountains of Western Bulgaria, there will be sunny periods before noon, but cumulonimbus clouds will develop in the afternoon. Short-term rain with thunderstorms is expected, and the probability of storms is moderate to high in Rila, Pirin, Vitosha, and the western parts of the Stara Planina mountain range.
The wind will strengthen from the north-northeast. At an altitude of about 1200 meters, temperatures will be approximately 22–25°C, and at 2000 meters – around 14–17°C. Sea water temperature and swimming flags do not apply to mountain areas.
The Black Sea coast
Along the Black Sea, the day will be mostly sunny, with temperatures between 28°C and 31°C. Rain is unlikely, but the wind from the northeast will be light to moderate, and along the Southern Black Sea coast – temporarily strong.
The sea water temperature will remain between 26°C and 27°C. The preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a yellow flag on open beaches due to the strengthening wind and expected sea state. In more sheltered areas, a green flag is possible, but the final decision rests with the lifeguard teams on site.
