The Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Dimitar Nikolov, attended the ceremonial opening of a new, high-tech STEM center at the prestigious AEG "Geo Milev". The ceremony, which gathered representatives of the educational community and local authorities, was strategically linked to the observance of the European Day of Languages. This symbolic connection unequivocally underlines the European focus of the educational institution and its ambitious pursuit of providing modern and high-quality education that meets the highest continental standards.
Funding and Profile of the STEM Center
The construction of the innovative STEM center was realized under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – a key financial mechanism of the European Union, intended for the modernization of the educational infrastructure in the country. The structure of the center is tailored down to the smallest detail to the specific profile of the high school, which traditionally focuses its education on areas such as "Biology and Health Education" and "Chemistry and Environmental Protection". In addition to these specializations, the school has successfully expanded its scope in recent years, including professional training in graphic design, which necessitated the creation of an adequate high-tech facility.
Functional Directions
The new acquisition is functionally structured around two main, mutually complementary directions:
- The first, named "Natural Sciences", places a strong emphasis on the in-depth study of subjects such as "Biology and Health Education", "Chemistry and Environmental Protection", as well as "Physics and Astronomy".
- The second direction is "Design and 3D Prototyping", which provides not just a classroom, but an entirely modern technological facility dedicated to quality training in graphic design and the introduction of innovative educational practices in the field of digital creativity.
The STEM center space itself is designed as a multifunctional hub. This architecture allows for the application of a holistic approach to education, facilitates the transfer of knowledge between different subject areas, and actively encourages the development of project-based learning. Among the strategic goals of the center is also placing a specific emphasis on the foreign language development of students, integrating science and communication.
Ceremony and Demonstrations
During the official ceremony, the Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, extended warm greetings to the management and students of the educational institution on the occasion of the new acquisition. He emphasized the exceptional significance of such infrastructure projects for the overall development of education in the city, positioning Burgas as a center of innovation and modern learning.
The festive program proceeded in an atmosphere of visible excitement and professional enthusiasm among those present. The culmination of the event was the impressive musical performance by tenth-grader Aleksandra Belcheva, followed by an open lesson demonstrating the center's new capabilities for practical exercises. The theme of the lesson was "Creating a Space for Sustainable Living". Its realization was the result of the joint work of an interdisciplinary team of teachers in natural sciences, arts, graphic design, mathematics, and information technologies, who worked in close cooperation with active 11th-grade students, practically showcasing the integration of science and creativity in a real environment.
The principal of the high school, Zhaklin Neycheva, expressed her deep satisfaction, noting that the new STEM environment represents an important and decisive step toward modern European education. She shared that the center is tangible proof of the management's ambition to provide students with knowledge and skills that are directly applicable and that will help them successfully cope with the constantly changing challenges of the modern world and the labor market.
With the official opening of this high-tech STEM center, AEG "Geo Milev" unequivocally confirms its position as an innovative and leading school, offering quality and contemporary education that skillfully combines educational tradition with the latest technologies and a creative approach.
