Specialized Hospital in Burgas Organizes "Open Doors Week" for Tuberculosis Prevention

Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumo-Phthisiatric Diseases - Burgas is organizing an "Open Doors Week" (December 8-12, 2025) within the framework of the National Program for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control. The aim is to raise awareness and provide access to examinations and tests for citizens.

Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumo-Phthisiatric Diseases - Burgas participates in the implementation of the National Program for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis in the Republic of Bulgaria for 2021 – 2025 and announces a “Open Doors Week” from December 8th to December 12th, 2025.

Tuberculosis is among the 10 most common causes of death worldwide, mainly affecting the lungs. With timely diagnosis and proper treatment, about 90% of patients can be cured in 6 months.

In Bulgaria, the most affected age groups in 2024 are between 45-54 years (21.7%), 55-64 years (20.4%) and over 65 years (20.5%). Ending the tuberculosis epidemic by 2030 is among the UN's health goals.

The “Open Doors Week” campaign has proven its effectiveness in detecting and treating cases of tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis infection.
