The lowest temperatures in February in the country will be between minus 12 and minus 7 degrees, and the highest - between 18 and 23 degrees, Anastasia Kirilova, a meteorologist at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), announced to BTA, presenting the weather forecast for the month of the “Meteorological Forecasts” department at NIMH.
According to her, this year in February the average monthly temperature is expected to be around or above normal, which in Northern Bulgaria and in the high fields is from 1 to 3 degrees, in Southern Bulgaria and on the Black Sea coast - between 3 and 6 degrees, and in the mountains - between minus 8 and minus 4 degrees.
The monthly sum of precipitation will be above normal, which for most of the country is between 30 and 50 liters per square meter, in the mountains and southern regions - between 60 and 80 liters per square meter.
February will start with precipitation and during its first ten days there will be a series of Mediterranean cyclones
The month will begin with mostly cloudy weather, with precipitation, mainly snow, and the temperatures will be close to the climatic norms.
Even before the middle of the first ten days, a short period with a small probability of precipitation is expected, with more significant breaks and reductions in cloud cover, when the temperatures will drop significantly.
Around the middle of the ten days and during its second half, the weather in the country will be determined by a series of Mediterranean cyclones passing through the Balkans. Temperatures will rise, cloud cover will increase, and the probability of precipitation in many places in the country increases.
In most regions, the precipitation will be rain, but with the influx of cold air, in the back of the cyclones in the low mountain regions, in the high fields in Western Bulgaria and in the Predbalkan, the probability of snowfall increases, without forming a permanent snow cover.
During the second ten days, the temperatures will be usual for the month, and at the end of February there will be more sunny hours
The prospects for the second ten days of February are that the cloud cover will be significant during most days, there is still an increased probability of precipitation, and the temperatures will be around and above the usual for the middle of February.
The tendency for cloudy weather with precipitation is maintained until around February 22-23. In the following days, until the end of the month, the probability of precipitation decreases, more sunny hours are expected and the temperatures will rise, the meteorologist from NIMH Anastasia Kirilova predicts.
