Forecast for August 16: Sunny weather and pleasant conditions for the sea

Sunday, August 16, will bring predominantly sunny and typical summer weather. Over Eastern Bulgaria, cumulus clouds will develop in the afternoon, but precipitation is unlikely. Maximum temperatures in the country will be between 28°C and 33°C, and in Sofia – around 29°C.

Weather in Burgas and the region

In Burgas, the day will begin at around 18–19°C, and the maximum temperature will reach 26–27°C. It will be mostly sunny, with insignificant cumulus clouds in the afternoon. The probability of precipitation remains low – around 4–5%.

The sea water temperature will be around 26°C. A light to moderate east-northeasterly wind will blow at a speed of about 3–7 m/s, which may temporarily increase around noon. The sea state will be around 2–3 on the Douglas scale.

The preliminary safety assessment for swimming in the Burgas region is a green flag. The sea will be relatively calm, but bathers should follow the flag signaling and the instructions of the lifeguards at the specific beach.

Sofia and the region

In Sofia, it will be mostly sunny, with a minimum temperature of around 11–14°C and a maximum of around 29–30°C. The probability of precipitation is low. A light wind from the east-northeast will blow, at a speed of approximately 2–4 m/s.

For Sofia and the inland regions, sea water temperature and swimming flags do not apply. When visiting reservoirs and unmonitored water bodies, local safety rules must be followed.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, it will be mostly sunny. In the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop, but it will remain almost without precipitation. Maximum temperatures will be between 28°C and 31°C, and the wind will be light to moderate from the east-northeast.

In Western Bulgaria, the weather will be sunny, with temperatures between 29°C and 33°C. In the higher valley fields, it will be slightly cooler. The wind will be light, and in the afternoon hours in the western mountain ranges, it will orient from the northwest.

In the mountains

In the mountains, sunny weather will prevail. At an altitude of about 1200 meters, the maximum temperature will be close to 23°C, and at 2000 meters – around 15°C. A moderate east-northeasterly wind will blow, which will orient from the northwest in the afternoon in the massifs of Western Bulgaria.

Sea water temperature and swimming flags do not apply to mountain areas. Outdoor routes remain suitable for tourism, but it is advisable for tourists to bring protection from the strong sun.

Black Sea coast

Along the entire Black Sea coast, it will be mostly sunny. There will be cumulus clouds in the afternoon, but precipitation is unlikely. Maximum temperatures will be between 27°C and 28°C.

The sea water will have a temperature between 24°C and 26°C, and the waves will be 2–3 on the Douglas scale. The wind will be light from the east-northeast. The preliminary assessment for safe swimming is a green flag, with a possible yellow flag on more exposed beaches during temporary wind intensification.
