Worrying statistics on road safety in the country were announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Over the past 24 hours, a total of 28 serious road traffic accidents were registered in the country, in which 39 people were injured. These data once again raise the question of the effectiveness of the measures taken by the state to reduce accidents.
The situation in the capital also remains tense. In the last 24 hours, 13 accidents have occurred in Sofia, one of which is described as serious. As a result of these incidents, one person was injured. The other 12 traffic accidents were minor, but they still contribute to the overall picture of risk on the roads.
An analysis of the data from the beginning of the month shows a stable trend towards a high frequency of accidents. From the first day of the month until now, 416 accidents have occurred. The tragic result of these incidents is 26 dead and 561 injured. This statistic raises the alarm for the need for increased control and preventive measures, especially regarding compliance with traffic rules.
The situation since the beginning of the year is even more grim. For the period from the beginning of the year until today, the total number of serious road traffic accidents has reached 4196. As a result, 263 people have lost their lives, and the number of injured is impressive – 5182 people.
Despite the grim statistics, the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes a slight improvement compared to the previous year. According to official data, in the same period of 2025, there were 12 fewer deaths compared to 2024. However, road safety experts warn that this slight decrease should not be perceived as an indicator of solving the problem, as the number of victims and injured remains unacceptably high. The Ministry of Internal Affairs adds that their work on increased control and prevention will continue to ensure greater safety for all road users.
