A state of disaster will be declared in the Municipality of Petrich, the press center of the Regional Administration announced. According to the information, the amount of rain that fell was between 20 and 25 l/sq. m for the day. Larger amounts – over 35 l/sq. m – were registered in the last three hours in Sandanski. Isolated floods of basements, houses and streets have occurred in the villages of Levunovo, Novo Delchevo and Lilyanovo.
In the area of the Kresna Gorge and the Predel Pass, rocks have fallen, which are being removed by teams from the Road Administration – Blagoevgrad. Drivers are urged to drive with increased caution. Traffic is difficult on the road between Sklave and Spatovo due to water on the road surface. Teams have been sent everywhere to eliminate the problems.
A large amount of water is present on the Struma motorway near the village of Novo Delchevo and on the main road E-79 in the area of the Spartak quarter in Sandanski. Road Police teams are on site, signaling to drivers to pass with increased caution. There is no information about injured people.
The water levels of the rivers are slightly above average and there is currently no danger of overflow. In some sections of small tributaries, there are broken dikes, and equipment has been directed to eliminate the problems. The operational headquarters, created by the regional governor, is working in an emergency situation and coordinates the actions between institutions and municipalities.
