The new operational report of UNHCR from June 2025 indicates that in Bulgaria over 205,190 people, who fled the war in Ukraine since 2022, have been registered and received temporary protection. This requires the continuation of significant public and administrative efforts for their integration.
The agency emphasizes the need to expand programs for access to education, employment, and social inclusion, especially in small municipalities where capacity is limited. The focus is also on prioritizing women and children, who make up a large part of this number, to ensure their protection and stability.
UNHCR plans to deploy mobile teams in remote regions and organize information campaigns in Bulgarian and Ukrainian languages. The goal is for people under protection to learn about their rights, available services, and direct contacts with responsible institutions.
According to UNHCR, the number over 200,000 highlights the significant public and administrative burdens and requires the continuation of international support, as well as strengthened partnership with state and civil society organizations.
