Bulgaria receives new funds under the RRP
This week, Bulgaria is expected to receive a tranche of 109 million euros under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), announced Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov. Currently, the country has absorbed just over 70% of the funds, with the government's goal being to reach 90-95%.
"We saved over 400 million euros that would have been lost, thanks to the adoption of the Anti-Corruption Commission Law," Pekanov stated.
Key reforms and challenges
- Anti-corruption measures: The adoption of the law on the accountability of the Prosecutor General was crucial for unlocking the current 109 million euros.
- Risk of sanctions: The refusal of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) to appoint a member to the Anti-Corruption Commission could lead to sanctions regarding the fifth payment, the amount of which will become clear in September.
- Infrastructure: Next week, the "Georgi Asparuhov" metro station in Sofia, financed under the plan, is scheduled to open.
Pekanov reminded that the deadline for completing repair and construction activities, as well as for finalizing the reforms under the RRP, is the end of August.
