The heatwave that has gripped most of the country is about to give way to a dynamic weather situation, characterized by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Today, according to the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), temperatures will remain high, reaching up to 33°C in some areas, but meteorological models show a sharp deterioration in the weather during the day.

Amidst maximum temperatures, which will vary between 28° and 33°C, and will be around 29°C in the capital Sofia, powerful thunderstorm systems are expected to form. They will first appear in Western Bulgaria, where intense rainfall will begin to develop in the afternoon hours. As the day progresses, these phenomena will move eastward, reaching the eastern regions of the country by evening. Forecasters warn of locally significant amounts of rain, which could lead to flash floods, as well as the danger of hailstorms and temporary strong winds, which could cause property damage.

THE SITUATION ON THE BLACK SEA COAST AND IN THE MOUNTAINS

The meteorological picture on the Black Sea coast will be different, but also changeable. The morning hours in some places will be marked by reduced visibility due to fog. The day will be mostly cloudy and windy, with a moderate wind from the east-southeast. Maximum temperatures along the coast will be slightly lower, between 26° and 27°C. It is important to note that the sea water temperature will be between 24° and 25°C, but despite this, the sea is expected to be choppy with waves of 2 to 3 balls, which requires increased caution for vacationers and small boats.

The mountain regions will also not be spared from the meteorological cataclysm. Thunderstorms and rainfall, which will be temporarily intense and significant in quantity, are also expected there. Only in the massifs of Eastern Bulgaria is the probability of such phenomena the smallest. Mountaineers and tourists are urged to be more cautious and to monitor the weather forecasts before heading out into the mountains.

FORECAST FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS

The changeable and dynamic weather will persist in the coming days, with rainfall expected in many areas. On Friday it will rain in many parts of the country, again with a locally intense character. On Saturday, the rain will focus mainly in the mountains and mountainous regions, where tourists should be especially careful.

A brief improvement is expected on Sunday, when there will be more hours of sunshine. However, meteorological models show that this lull will be short-lived. Later in the day, on the night before Monday and on Monday itself, rainfall is again expected in many parts of the country. Against the backdrop of this variable situation, meteorologists predict that temperatures in the coming days will gradually decrease, but will remain within the normal range for the season.
