CPC enters Burgas due to Eurovision 2027
The Chairman of the Commission for Consumer Protection (CPC), Aleksandar Kolyachev, announced that the institution will closely monitor for unfair commercial practices regarding property rentals during the "Eurovision" song contest in Burgas in May 2027.
"I believe there is plenty of time until May next year for adjustments to be made, and these adjustments will come from the business sector itself," Kolyachev stated to Nova Television.
Why did it come to this?
The reason for the statement was "comical" listings in which apartments are offered for amounts in the range of 118,000 euros per week. According to experts, this is unjustified, as Burgas has a bed capacity for over 200,000 people, while the expected number of tourists is around 90,000.
What will the CPC check?
- Artificially inflated prices: Monitoring for unjustified price gouging.
- Unfair practices: The use of "crossed-out" prices that mislead consumers.
- Communication with businesses: Initiating a dialogue with the Ministry of Tourism and hoteliers to ensure normal conditions for guests.
The regulator assured that it will strengthen its presence in the seaside city during the period around the contest to ensure that the tourists' experience is not overshadowed by dishonest traders.
