Political Clash: "Eurovision" in Burgas or Sofia?

The selection of Burgas as the host for the upcoming "Eurovision" song contest has sparked a sharp reaction from the Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council (SMC), Tsvetomir Petrov. According to him, the decision was dictated by behind-the-scenes political games rather than logistical capabilities.

"How long will the state be a stepmother to its own capital, and how long will the people of Sofia pay the price for behind-the-scenes political games?!" – stated Tsvetomir Petrov.

Why was Sofia the logical choice?

Petrov emphasized that even DARA herself, whose victory brought the contest to Bulgaria, had pointed to Sofia as the most suitable location. Nevertheless, the contest will be held in Burgas on May 11, 13, and 15 next year.

A "punitive action" against the capital?

The Chairman of the SMC expressed suspicion that Sofia is being "punished" because of its political preferences. According to him, turning "Eurovision" into a tool for political positioning before elections is a blow against the principle that decisions should be made based on capabilities, not political convenience.
