The court confirmed: Hristo Shirokov remains behind bars

The Appellate Court in Burgas made a final decision confirming the remand measure "detention in custody" for Hristo Shirokov. He is accused of organizing and participating in a criminal group that operated in the territory of the Burgas region in the period from February 2024 to July 2026.

According to the court, there is a real danger that the defendant could influence witnesses or commit a new crime if released.

Who is involved?

The investigation reveals a connection between Shirokov and high-ranking officials, including the former director of ViK-Burgas, Tsvetan Mirchev. The group acted with a self-serving motive, with data recorded regarding official misconduct, coercion, and trading in influence.

Why did the court deny Shirokov freedom?

The court emphasized that at this stage of the pre-trial proceedings, the most important thing is to limit the possibility for the defendants to coordinate their defense versions. The ruling is final and is not subject to appeal.
