Chief Commissioner Alexander Djartov from the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" reported a large-scale operation to control the fire crisis. In an attempt to control the spreading hotspots, rescue teams are mobilizing air resources of various types.
Two Swedish planes and a military helicopter are planned to assist firefighting activities in the Ilinden area. Extreme weather conditions - high temperatures and strong winds - further complicate the situation and create prerequisites for rapid flame spread.
The statistics are more than alarming - over 200 fires have been registered in different parts of the country in the past day. The areas around Sredets and Sungurlare remain the most critical, where rescue operations continue at full force.
Currently, the terrain around Sredets is being secured, while the fire in Sungurlare has not yet been localized. An additional helicopter from Novo selo has been sent to support firefighters in their efforts to control the growing crisis.
Experts from the Regional Fire Safety and Population Protection Directorate continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary measures to limit damages and prevent further fire spread.
