Christmas is approaching, and during this pre-holiday period, every family requisitions old home recipes for traditional Christmas dishes.
Undoubtedly, in Bulgarian reality, the most beloved Christmas dish seems to be bahur. It was even sung about in a performance by Krastyo Lafazanov – as a counterpoint to culture, and became a true folk hero of the transition.
Anyway, in the village or in the city, bahur remains a favorite and sought-after food during the winter. For the team of the Burgas museum, it is more important that this is a very archaic delicacy, which originates from at least the Middle Ages.
A restored old recipe from the Kotlen Balkan will be presented on December 18, Thursday, from 11:00 am in the Ethnokitchen at the ethnographic exhibition.
To make the pleasure complete, the museum team has invited to bahur, leeks and red wine the artists from the “Burgas Writers' Community” and the Satirical Club “Sea Crabs”.
The writers will take on the serious task of attending the demonstration and writing a “blitz” poem dedicated to bahur. Their works will be published by the Burgas Museum in a collection of poems.
Thus, in addition to the culinary demonstration, we will answer the fundamental question – can bahur be a muse for poets?
