One person has lost their life and 17 have been injured in serious road accidents across the country in the last 24 hours. This is according to official statistics published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The data shows that the road situation remains extremely alarming, with a total of 16 serious accidents registered in the past 24 hours.
The situation in the capital
The situation in the capital is also worrying. In Sofia alone, there have been 10 minor and one serious road accident, in which one person was injured.
The statistics, announced by the MIA, reveal a grim picture for longer periods as well. Since the beginning of the month, a total of 534 road accidents have been registered in the country, in which 34 people have died and 704 have been injured.
Long-term statistics
The trend continues on a wider scale. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 4321 crashes, which have taken the lives of 271 people. The number of injured in these incidents reaches 5431, which emphasizes the scale of the road safety problem in the country.
Experts remind that despite constant calls for more attention and compliance with the Road Traffic Act, the number of incidents remains high. Every crash is a tragedy that leaves deep scars on dozens of families.
