A historic success for Bulgarian science
The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University has achieved a remarkable success, ranking first in Eastern Europe and entering the top 4 institutions in the EU by the number of accepted research papers at CVPR 2026 – the world's most prestigious event for computer vision and AI.
With a total of 20 accepted papers, INSAIT has proven that it is among the strongest research centers globally.
Which world universities did INSAIT rank ahead of?
- Cambridge
- Princeton
- Yale
The Bulgarian organization outperformed leading universities and all institutions from countries such as Sweden, France, and Israel. An exceptional achievement is also the fact that one of the institute's papers received an oral presentation – a recognition awarded to only 3.5% of all accepted submissions.
Focus on the future of technology
The research by INSAIT scientists covers key areas such as:
- AI for robotics
- Spatial reasoning
- Egocentric vision
- Earth observation
- Visual agents
This achievement confirms the institute's strategy of attracting world-class talent and reinforces its role as a technology leader in partnership with the Swiss institutions ETH Zurich and EPFL.
