Director of the Customs Agency Nikolay Shushkov discussed digitalization, supply chain security, and Bulgaria's role as a key border point with the World Customs Organization.

Bulgaria's Key Role in the Supply Chain

During the 147th and 148th sessions of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council in Brussels, the Director of the Customs Agency, Nikolay Shushkov, held strategic talks with the organization's Secretary General, Ian Saunders. A key focus of the discussions was Bulgaria's position as a strategic land border for Europe towards Asia.

"Customs administrations must focus on software innovation and data-driven operations to ensure a technological transition and higher efficiency," stated Nikolay Shushkov during the Policy Commission meeting.

As of July 1, 2025, the Customs Agency is a member of the WCO Policy Commission – the organization's highest body after the Customs Co-operation Council. This participation reaffirms Bulgaria's commitment to global standards and the security of trade routes.
