Emergency Situation: Wildfires in Northern Greece
Wildfires have broken out in several areas of Northern Greece, necessitating urgent measures by the Greek authorities. The 112 emergency alert system has been activated, and residents and tourists in parts of the Chalkidiki peninsula and the Thessaloniki region have been preventively evacuated.
Currently, there is no information about any Bulgarian citizens being injured, the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki reported.
Situation by Region
- Chalkidiki: The fire near Nea Kallikrateia has been contained. 45 firefighters with 12 vehicles, volunteers, and specialized aircraft participated in bringing the blaze under control.
- Thessaloniki: The fire is spreading across agricultural and forest areas. Authorities have called for immediate evacuation via mobile notifications.
Greek authorities urge everyone residing in the affected areas to strictly follow the instructions of the civil protection services. The situation remains dynamic, with firefighting teams continuing to battle the flames.
