Hot August 24th with storms in Western Bulgaria and calm sea near Burgas

On August 24, the weather in Bulgaria will start mostly sunny and hot, but in the afternoon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop over Western and Central Bulgaria. Short-term precipitation and thunderstorms are expected in some areas. Maximum temperatures will be between 32° and 37°, and in Sofia – around 32°.

Weather in Burgas and the region

In Burgas and along the Southern Black Sea coast, the day will be mostly sunny. The expected maximum temperatures are around 28°-30°, and morning temperatures around 21°.

The probability of precipitation in Burgas is low – about 2%. A southeasterly wind will blow, which will be up to moderate, with an estimated speed of about 8-11 m/s. The sea water temperature will be around 25°, and the sea state – approximately 2 degrees.

The preliminary assessment for swimming at the beaches in the Burgas region is green flag, but tourists should heed the posted signaling, the instructions of the lifeguards, and the local conditions of the specific beach.

Sofia and the region

In Sofia and the region, sunny weather will prevail before noon. Around and after noon, cloudiness will increase, with short-term precipitation and thunderstorms expected in some parts of the region.

The maximum temperature in the capital will be around 32°. The wind will be light to moderate, and the probability of precipitation is higher during the second half of the day. Sea water temperature and swimming assessment do not apply to Sofia and the region.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, the weather will remain mostly sunny and hot. A moderate wind will blow from the east-southeast, and maximum temperatures will reach between 32° and 37°. The probability of precipitation will be low, with the exception of isolated local cloud developments.

In Western Bulgaria, the morning will also be sunny, but in the afternoon, atmospheric instability will intensify. Short-term, temporarily intense precipitation, thunderstorms, and wind gusts are possible in some places. Temperatures will remain high, but areas with rainfall may temporarily cool down.

Sea water temperature and the flag system for swimming do not apply to the interior of the country.

Mountain conditions

In the mountains, the morning will be mostly sunny. After noon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop over the massifs in Western and Central Bulgaria, with conditions for short-term precipitation and thunderstorms.

A moderate wind will blow from the south-southeast, and in the highest parts – from the west-northwest. The maximum temperature at 1200 meters will be around 26°, and at 2000 meters – around 18°. In case of thunderstorm activity, tourists should avoid open ridges, solitary trees, metal structures, and bodies of water.

Sea water temperature and swimming safety assessment do not apply to mountain regions.

Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, it will be mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures will be between 26° and 30°, and the sea water will remain around 25°.

The wind will be from the southeast, up to moderate. The sea state is expected to be around 2 degrees. The preliminary assessment for swimming conditions is green flag, but the final decision on the flag is determined on-site by the lifeguard teams according to the sea state, currents, and the specific situation.
