Tension surrounding the arrest of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev has escalated. At the center of the dispute is the upcoming extraordinary meeting of the Municipal Election Commission (OIK), scheduled to consider signals for the termination of Kotsev's powers.

PP-DB expressed concerns that GERB is striving for a provisional victory in potential new elections. In response, GERB stated that their representatives in the OIK will not support the removal of Kotsev.

The OIK responded to PP-DB's accusations that the meeting was convened illegally, emphasizing that all legal provisions have been observed.

Ivaylo Mirchev from DB expressed doubts that the purpose of the meeting is to remove Kotsev and accused Borisov and Peevski.

GERB reacted to these accusations. Kostadin Angelov announced that GERB will not support the removal of Kotsev, and Toma Bikov emphasized that the problems should be resolved by the court.

The OIK meeting is taking place because of three complaints against Kotsev, related to his powers after the arrest and the indictment.

In parallel, on Thursday, Kotsev's pre-trial detention will be reviewed in the Varna Regional Court.
