A large-scale diplomatic meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with representatives from key countries of the EU, USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. The focus of the discussions was placed on institutional pressure against the Bulgarian minority in the neighboring country.
During the discussion, Ljubčo Georgievski, chairman of the Cultural Club "Ivan Mihajlov" in Bitola, closed by Skopje authorities, was invited. Minister Georgiev emphatically underscored the injustice of the legal proceedings against him, describing the June 12 sentence as a politically motivated act.
The Bulgarian state position is extremely principled - the condemnatory sentence is viewed as inconsistent with the democratic standards of a country applying for membership in the European Union. The diplomatic approach aims to present the problems to the international community in the most transparent manner.
The official Bulgarian institutions declared full readiness to defend the rights of the Bulgarian minority through all possible international mechanisms for human rights protection. The meeting emphasized Bulgaria's firm determination to counteract institutional discrimination.
