Government meeting with Lukoil and Litasco over €3 billion arbitration claim

The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers are discussing with the leadership of Litasco and Lukoil the risks to Bulgaria from an arbitration dispute worth 3 billion euros.

Key meeting at the Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Rumen Radev is convening an urgent meeting with representatives of the management of the companies "Litasco" and "Lukoil". The talks will take place at 1:00 PM in the Council of Ministers building, the government press service announced.

The discussions will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev, as well as the Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexander Pulev.

Threat of 3 billion euro arbitration

The Swiss company "Litasco SA", which is part of the "Lukoil" group and a shareholder in "Lukoil Neftohim Burgas" and "Lukoil Bulgaria", has filed an arbitration dispute against the Bulgarian state. Minister Alexander Pulev warned that the potential amount of the claim reaches 3 billion euros, which poses a serious risk to fiscal stability.

Changes in leadership and control

The meeting comes against the backdrop of personnel changes in state control over the oil company:
