The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria approved a new initiative to support Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing military conflict in their homeland. According to information provided by the press center of the Council of Ministers, the government has given the green light to the Ministry of Defense to organize a summer vacation in Bulgaria for children from Ukraine and their accompanying adults.
The program envisions accommodating the children in the hotel "Sarafovo - MoD", which is managed by the Executive Agency "Military Clubs and Military Recreation" under the Ministry of Defense. The vacation is planned for the period from August 30 to September 9, 2025.
This decision is part of a broader strategy of the Bulgarian government to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The aim of the initiative is to provide an opportunity for the physical, mental, and emotional recovery of children who have experienced trauma from the war. Special attention is given to children of fallen Ukrainian servicemen and volunteers, as this is seen as "another act of humanitarian gesture" by the Ministry of Defense.
This initiative is a continuation of earlier government efforts in this direction. At the end of July, a decision was made to organize summer camps for Ukrainian children in August 2025. At that time, accommodation for 50 people, including accompanying adults, was planned for a period of up to 10 days in holiday facilities of "Prevention, Rehabilitation and Recreation" EAD. Funding for these camps is provided from the budget of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.
These initiatives demonstrate the consistency in Bulgaria's policy of providing support to Ukraine and its citizens in the conditions of ongoing conflict. By providing opportunities for rest and recovery, our country demonstrates its solidarity and humanitarian commitment.
Experts in the field of child psychology emphasize the importance of such programs for children who have experienced military conflicts. According to them, the change of environment and the opportunity to rest in a peaceful setting can have a significant positive effect on the process of recovery and adaptation of children.
This initiative is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine, while also reinforcing our country's position as an active participant in international efforts to support those affected by the conflict.
