On July 2, 2025, large-scale bilateral political consultations were held at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with representatives of the Republic of Chile, marking a significant rise in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The official delegation was received by Deputy Minister Nikolay Pavlov, who emphasized the strategic importance of the upcoming negotiations. The leading representatives of both countries – General Director Todor Stoyanov from the Bulgarian side and Secretary of Foreign Policy Rodrigo Olsen from the Chilean side – conducted extensive consultations.
The discussions covered numerous key areas of bilateral cooperation. Among the priority areas were trade relations, investment projects, technological development, artificial intelligence, and research activities.
Todor Stoyanov described the meeting as an exceptional opportunity to renew and deepen the partnership. Experts discussed a wide range of political and sectoral issues, including regional and global challenges.
Particular attention was paid to interaction in international organizations, mutual support for candidacies, and the potential for expanding economic ties. The Chilean side demonstrated exceptional support for Bulgaria's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Among the specific highlights of the meeting was the excellent cooperation in Antarctic research. Participants emphasized the importance of the partnership between the European Union and Chile, with Bulgaria being identified as an active participant.
The delegation also included the Chilean Ambassador to Bulgaria, Julio Bravo, whose seat is located in Bucharest, which further underscored the international character of the diplomatic meeting.
