The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science are introducing an innovative national program "Violence is Powerlessness", which will be implemented in pilot capital schools from the 2025-2026 academic year. The program aims to train 8th and 9th grade students to recognize and respond to domestic violence and abusive behavior, while developing self-respect and skills for coping with traumatic experiences.

The national program "Violence is Powerlessness" is developed by a multidisciplinary team on the initiative of the "Domestic Violence" sector in the General Directorate "National Police" (GDNP). It was presented at a working meeting with representatives of five pilot capital schools and will be introduced in the new 2025-2026 academic year.

According to the Deputy Director of GDNP, Senior Commissioner Ivan Madjarov, the purpose of the program is not just to inform young people about toxic relationships, but to teach them to recognize early signals, build self-respect and boundaries, as well as to realize their right and power to change their lives through their choices.

Chief Inspector Zornitsa Shumanova, head of the "Domestic Violence" sector in GDNP, emphasizes that the core of prevention is to build sensitivity and understanding in young people against violence in all its forms. She believes that joint work has the potential to shed light on the issue of violence and interrupt its transmission between generations.

The national program "Violence is Powerlessness" is approved by the Minister of the Interior Daniel Mitov and the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev.
